A Youth Challenges Her Drinking Classmates To Uncover More Information About Alcohol Abuse And Alcoholism

Heather drank quite often and quite a lot with her buddies. One Monday after school she started thinking about the amount of alcohol she had on a regular basis and the drinking behavior or her buddies. As a result of this, she asked all of her buddies the following question: "what do we really know about alcohol abuse, alcoholism, binge drinking, and alcohol poisoning? Stated more explicitly, how much alcoholism and alcohol abuse information do we truly know? For our age, we clearly drink excessively and I am starting to wonder if all of us are headed for a life filled with alcohol-related problems in the not so distant future.

I think we need to go online and learn all we can about binge drinking, alcoholism, alcohol abuse, and alcohol poisoning. And then if we have any issues that we do not comprehend after we do our Internet research, we can schedule an appointment at the student health center at the college and ask Nurse Furlong to help us understand what we do not know.

It should not come as a great surprise that what Heather mentioned would result in a heated discussion. For instance, her best friend since the second grade, Alexis, said that they are too healthy and too young to be concerned about hazardous and careless drinking. Another friend named Trevor thought that since most high school students drink there is no logical reason why they should be any different. Another friend named Jazmyn stated that all she wants to do is to have fun drinking with her friends. And still another drinking pal named Luca actually agreed with Heather primarily because both of his parents abused alcohol and both of his parents had a history of alcohol related problems.

Heather told her pals that she understood everything that they had said but that involving oneself in careless and irresponsible drinking at such an early age in truth cannot be very healthy or something that contributes toward establishing a meaningful life. When a few of her drinking pals asked what kind of alcohol problems Heather was referring to, Heather mentioned the following: alcohol-related diseases such as heart disease, cirrhosis of the liver, and cancer and other alcohol-related problems like alcohol-related traffic accidents and fatalities, alcohol poisoning (which can be fatal in some instances), and alcoholism.

When Heather then mentioned that irresponsible drinking regularly results in relationship, financial, school, and legal problems, some of her buddies finally started to understand how wide-ranging and how debilitating careless drinking can be. To be sure some of her friends opened up and started to tell how these alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse effects had affected some of their friends and their parents.

After outlining some of the alcoholism and alcohol abuse problems that are related to abusive and irresponsible drinking, the majority of her friends seemed to like the idea about getting information on the Internet. They were, however, hesitant to discuss their drinking circumstances with any of the teachers at school. As Heather reflected on this she whispered to herself, "at least they are willing to find out more about their abusive and irresponsible drinking. This is an excellent start."
